About this check

The ISI is a 7-question check on how your sleep has been for the last two weeks. It covers falling asleep, staying asleep, early waking, how satisfied you are with your sleep, and how much it is affecting your days.

Important: This measures insomnia specifically. It does not screen for sleep apnea, restless legs, narcolepsy, or other sleep disorders. If you snore heavily, stop breathing in your sleep, or feel unrefreshed no matter how long you sleep, please see a doctor.

What your score means

No significant insomnia · score 0–7

Your answers are in the range of normal sleep variation. Nothing of clinical concern here.

Subthreshold insomnia · score 8–14

Your sleep is noticeably worse than "just fine", but not yet in the clinical insomnia range. This is a good time to pay attention, before it becomes habit.

Clinical insomnia (moderate) · score 15–21

Your sleep difficulties are at a clinically significant level. This is where daytime functioning — energy, mood, focus, patience — usually starts taking a hit.

Clinical insomnia (severe) · score 22–28

Your sleep difficulties are severe. Sleep this disrupted affects mood, cardiovascular health, and cognition.
