Sleep Apnoea Risk Check
About this check
The STOP-BANG is an 8-question screener for obstructive sleep apnoea — a condition where breathing pauses during sleep, leading to fragmented, unrefreshing sleep. The letters stand for: Snoring, Tiredness, Observed apnoeas, Pressure (high blood), BMI, Age, Neck circumference, Gender.
What your score means
Your score suggests a low risk of obstructive sleep apnoea. If you are still sleepy or tired, other sleep issues (insomnia, insufficient time in bed, mood, thyroid) are worth looking at first.
Your score suggests intermediate risk of sleep apnoea. Worth taking to a GP; a sleep study may or may not be recommended, depending on other factors.
Your score suggests a high risk of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnoea. Untreated OSA is associated with cardiovascular risk, traffic accidents, and poor mood — but it is very treatable once diagnosed.
