Quick Alcohol Check
CAGE Questionnaire
About this check
The CAGE is a 4-question primary-care screen for alcohol dependence. The name is from the items: Cut down, Annoyed, Guilty, Eye-opener. Two or more "yes" answers is a positive screen.
Important: The CAGE is sensitive but brief — if your use is more nuanced than these four questions can capture (e.g., heavy but not dependent drinking), the 10-item AUDIT gives a better picture.
What your score means
Below screening threshold · score 0–1
Your score is below the cutoff of 2. This makes probable alcohol dependence less likely on this brief screen.
Positive screen · score 2–4
Your score is at or above 2 — the CAGE cutoff for probable alcohol-use problems. CAGE is sensitive at this cutoff: many positive screens are for hazardous rather than dependent drinking.
