PDSS-SR (Panic Disorder Severity Scale — Self-Report)

About this check

The PDSS-SR is a 7-question scale for people who have had panic attacks. It asks about how often attacks happen, how distressing they are, whether you worry about future attacks, and how much you avoid places where attacks might happen.

Important: This is a severity scale, not a diagnostic tool. It assumes you have had panic attacks; if you have not, it will not apply to you. Panic disorder is distinct from panic attacks alone — many people have occasional panic attacks without developing panic disorder.

What your score means

Minimal panic symptoms · score 0–7

Your score suggests panic symptoms are either absent or mild right now. The PDSS-SR is most useful for tracking over time if panic attacks come and go.

Mild panic disorder · score 8–13

Your score is in the mild range. Panic attacks are happening often enough to affect you, but probably not dominating your life yet.

Moderate panic disorder · score 14–18

Your score is in the moderate range. Panic is likely a regular part of your life right now, with real impact on where you go and what you do.

Severe panic disorder · score 19–28

Your score is in the severe range. Panic at this level often involves significant avoidance and real restriction of daily life.
