Intrusive Thoughts Check

OCI-R (Obsessive–Compulsive Inventory — Revised)
⏱ 3–5 min 18 questions Free · Private

About this check

The OCI-R is an 18-question scale covering the main patterns of obsessive–compulsive disorder: washing, checking, ordering, obsessing, hoarding, and mental neutralising. It asks how much you have been distressed or bothered by each item in the past month.

Important: This is a screener, not a diagnosis. OCD involves obsessions (unwanted intrusive thoughts) and/or compulsions (repetitive behaviours or mental acts). A clinician can help distinguish OCD from look-alikes such as generalised anxiety, perfectionism, or autism-related repetition.

What your score means

Below clinical threshold · score 0–20

Your score is below the cutoff of 21 that research suggests distinguishes likely OCD from the general population. Some quirks and checking habits are normal; this screen suggests yours are in that range.

Possible OCD · score 21–72

Your score is at or above 21 — the cutoff at which research consistently flags probable OCD. OCD at this level often involves substantial time and distress each day, even if the outward pattern is partly hidden.

How it works

The following statements refer to experiences that many people have in their everyday lives. Choose the answer that best describes how much the experience has distressed or bothered you during the past month.

If you are in crisis: Please call Tele-MANAS 14416 (free, 24/7, many Indian languages) or 112 for emergencies. You can also reach iCall, Vandrevala Foundation, or AASRA.
