Health Anxiety Check

SHAI-14 (Short Health Anxiety Inventory)
⏱ 4–6 min 14 questions Free · Private

About this check

The SHAI is a widely used short scale for health anxiety — the pattern of frequently worrying that you have, or might develop, a serious illness. It asks about the last six months and covers both worry about illness and how you respond to bodily sensations.

Important: Being attentive to your body is not the same as health anxiety. This scale catches the pattern of persistent, intrusive worry about illness that does not settle even when you have been reassured.

What your score means

Low health anxiety · score 0–14

Your score is in the normal range. A reasonable degree of attention to your body is healthy; your pattern is well within that.

Moderate health anxiety · score 15–20

Your score suggests notable health anxiety — more time spent worrying about illness than is typical, and often more than is useful.

High health anxiety · score 21–42

Your score is in the high range often seen in clinical health anxiety. Worry about illness is likely consuming a lot of your time, and reassurance may bring only short-lived relief.
