About this check

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale asks how likely you are to doze off or fall asleep in 8 different situations — not just feeling tired, but actually nodding off. High scores often indicate sleep is not refreshing, which can point to sleep apnoea, insufficient sleep, or other sleep disorders.

Important: High sleepiness has many causes: not enough sleep, poor sleep quality, sleep apnoea, narcolepsy, shift work, medications, and medical conditions. A high score is a nudge to investigate — it is not a diagnosis.

What your score means

Normal daytime sleepiness · score 0–10

Your score is in the normal range. Daytime sleepiness at this level is common and usually not a sign of a sleep disorder.

Moderate daytime sleepiness · score 11–15

Your score suggests moderate excessive daytime sleepiness. Many people in this range have insufficient or poor-quality sleep; a smaller number have sleep apnoea or another sleep disorder.

Severe daytime sleepiness · score 16–24

Your score is in the severe range. Sleepiness at this level often points to an underlying sleep disorder (sleep apnoea, narcolepsy, severe insomnia) and is associated with risks such as workplace and driving accidents.
